About La Tortilleria

La Tortilleria serves proper Mexican street food anchored by pure maize tortillas pressed in-house on Stubbs Street. Kensington regulars drop in for birria tacos dripping with savoury juices, prawn chilaquiles, and warm totopos with refried frijoles. Wash it down with a cold mezcal-and-Jamaica cocktail or a mandarin soda under the courtyard heaters, then grab a fresh stack of tortillas and a jar of house chamoy from the pantry shelf on the way out.

  • House-Pressed Maize Tortillas: Tortillas, totopos, and chips are pressed fresh using pure maize flour rather than wheat blends, keeping the menu naturally coeliac-safe.
  • Retail Pantry Goods: Diners can purchase the venue's house-made tortillas, specialty salsas, and chamoy straight from the counter for home cooking.
  • Taco Tuesday & Street Plates: Features discounted taco specials on Tuesdays alongside shareable tasting platters, prawn ceviche, and seasonal specials.

Why Melbourne Chooses La Tortilleria

  • House-Pressed Pure Maize Tortillas

Tortillas, chips, and totopos are pressed fresh in-house using pure maize flour without wheat fillers or commercial shortcuts.

For a start, the tortillas are made of maize flour! No mix of maize and wheat or entirely wheat like about 90% of the big chain Aus Mexican restaurants
