Book NowAbout Lamaro's Hotel
This South Melbourne gastropub pairs heritage charm with an upscale dining room where conversation flows easily over carpet and an open fire. Regulars point straight to the pan-fried veal schnitzel—crusted in sourdough, parmesan, and lemon crumbs, then plated with Italian slaw and Diane sauce. Steaks get a smoky sear over red gum wood, backed by a cellar book deep enough to reward curious pours by the glass. Up front, cold tap beers and televised sport keep the neighborhood energy grounded, letting an unhurried cutlet dinner roll into a late glass of cabernet.
- Signature Veal Schnitzel: Crusted in sourdough, parmesan, and lemon crumbs, served with Italian slaw and Diane sauce.
- Acoustic Hearth Comfort: Carpeted dining rooms and an open hearth keep chatter easy to hear without pub clatter.
- Red Gum Grill & Cellar List: Wood-fired red gum steaks matched to a book-bound cellar list with extensive by-the-glass options.

Bespoke Pan-Fried Veal Schnitzel
Lamaro's signature pan-fried veal cutlet is crumbed with sourdough, parmesan, and lemon, served with an Italian slaw and balanced Diane sauce.
I ordered their pan fried Veal Schnitzel with sourdough, parmesan and lemon crumbs, served with an Italian slaw and a light Diane sauce, chased down with a tall lemon, lime bitters. Perfection

The steaks are cooked perfectly over red gum for that smoky taste.
Tam N Curated Book-Length Wine Cellar

A wine list (a book actually) ensures all preferences are met, with sage advice to match.
Mery Acoustic Comfort by the Fireplace
Carpeted interiors dampen reverberation alongside a warm open hearth, ensuring guests can hold effortless conversations without venue strain.
The fit-out is really lovely with a big open fire. It isn’t noisy as it has carpet. Big bonus, as these days I feel like I’m going deaf when ppl chat to me in most venues as I can barely hear them!
nat Welcoming Neighborhood Front Bar
The front bar offers a relaxed, unpretentious setting with flat-screen sports and draught beers where solo visitors or casual catch-ups feel at home.
dominant white marble bar, dark timber ... yes, don't worry, Gents, there are plenty of faltscreen TVs with sports on ... even on a Thursday night ... no rowdy crowd, just a pleasant ambience and good vibes.

Veal Schnitzel
the veal schnitzel completely lived up to the hype, and while a couple of dishes didn’t quite justify their price, I still left happy. It’s definitely on the expensive side for a pub meal, but if you’re going, the veal schnitzel is the dish not to miss.
Christopher Wu Scotch Fillet
A dining companion had the scotch fillet with red wine jus; 300g and I had to help finishing it. It was the best steak I’ve had in years.
Andrew Weidmann Scallops & Pork Belly
Beef carpaccio, grilled scallops & pork belly, crispy eggplant - all made for an excellent meal.
Mery Salt and Pepper Calamari
The calamari was tender, lightly seasoned and came with a delicious aioli that disappeared almost immediately.

and the sides were thoughtful: golden polenta chips, charred brussels sprouts, and a crisp salad.

I'm not a salad person (sorry Mami), but I did enjoy that Red & Yellow beetroot salad, with presentation to match

The signature pan-fried veal schnitzel with Italian slaw and Diane sauce is a massive, premium cutlet ($40–$50 range) that comfortably anchors a meal, making lighter starters like beef tartare or sharing ideal.
