Book NowAbout Solace Bar
Deep down Croft Alley, this three-level haunt splits its energy between a cozy vinyl cocktail lounge below and a serious electronic dance floor above. The lower room keeps things relaxed with plush couches, vinyl cuts, and dialed-in drinks like espresso martinis and whisky sours. Up on the third floor, music lovers head straight into a pitch-black room anchored by a Funktion-One sound system. Staff tape stickers over phone lenses at the door, keeping the floor dialed entirely into heavy techno sets until the early morning.
- Phone-Free Club Floor: Enforces an immersive, distraction-free dance floor by placing stickers over phone cameras upon entry.
- Multi-Level Layout: Separates a relaxed, low-lit vinyl cocktail lounge downstairs from an upstairs techno space powered by Funktion-One sound.
- Croft Alley Hideaway: Offers easy midweek conversation over cocktails and weekend techno sessions tucked away in a Chinatown laneway.

World-Class Sound System
The club levels feature a top-tier Funktion-One sound system tuned for underground club music and techno, creating one of Melbourne's most immersive listening spaces.
World-class Funktion-One sound. Phone free dance floor for pure immersion.
Steven Nguyen Phone-Free Dance Floor Immersion
By covering phone cameras with stickers at the entrance, the venue ensures an uninhibited, phone-free dance floor where patrons can get lost in the music.
I really rate the fact that they put stickers over phone cameras at the door – it sets the tone that phones aren’t welcome, and sure enough, there wasn’t a single one on the dance floor.
Jared Kennedy Multi-Level Spaces for Conversation
Separated across multiple floors, patrons can settle into comfortable middle-level couch seating to talk easily over drinks without competing with high-volume club sound.
multiple floors, loud enough to where you can still talk comfortable. Couch seats in the middle floor and a really nice sound system, dance floor upstairs.
William Vassilopoulos Welcoming Lounge Atmosphere
The lower-level speakeasy bar offers a relaxed, welcoming environment with friendly bar staff, making it a comfortable spot to unwind with friends.
vibe is correct in there, the bartenders were super friendly, and it’s a very comfortable spot to chat on a wednesday night.
Siobhon M Hidden Laneway Speakeasy Setting
Tucked deep down a Chinatown alleyway, the venue captures an authentic speakeasy feel that begins the moment you navigate the laneway.
Now this is what I call a real hidden bar, it’s the kind of place that makes you wonder if you’re even going the right way while walking in.
Rubes Cosy Vinyl Happy Hours

Before you head over
Practical tips on finding the alley entrance, floor layout, and dance floor rules
Navigating the Laneway Entrance
The hidden entrance off Croft Alley requires walking through narrow Chinatown laneways, which can feel hard to find or intimidating at first. Trust your navigation until you spot the doorway.
Check the Multi-Level Floor Setup
The ground and first floors offer free entry for relaxed cocktail lounge seating, while the top floor is reserved for ticketed techno club nights with a Funktion-One sound system.
Prepare for the No-Camera Sticker Policy
Staff apply stickers over phone camera lenses upon arrival to maintain a phone-free, immersive dance floor upstairs, so plan accordingly if coordinating with a group.
